“A More Meaningful Life”... It’s A Global Movement

For years now, the MonaVie tagline line “A More Meaningful Life” has served as inspiration for MonaVie customers, employees, and distributors alike to focus on creating a life filled with meaning—for ourselves and our families.

But when the MonaVie founders coined the phrase, they knew that its deep meaning would transcend boundaries and be shared around the world. And it certainly has special meaning for the children living in the harsh conditions of the Brazilian favelas.

Healthy Living Has Come a Long Way since Jack LaLanne (aka, “The Godfather of Fitness”)

The Information Age has not only changed the way we live and work, it has also changed how we approach health. For example, Jack LaLanne—or the “Godfather of Fitness”—was an enterprising pioneer in the health and wellness industry starting in the late 1930s. Because of him, people started to take notice of what they were eating and how to stay physically active.

Staying on The Cutting Edge of Research

I just spent several days attending and presenting at the American Society for Nutrition program at the Experimental Biology Scientific Conference. EB—as it’s known by the 30,000+ scientists who attend every year—is the largest life sciences conference in the world. I’ve been attending EB for more than 20 years now, and I always leave the event with a brain full of new ideas for possible nutrition products.

Real Antioxidant Balance

I think that it’s interesting that MonaVie's position on antioxidants has always been along the lines of emphasizing “balance” even when numerous companies in the nutrition industry have been touting the “superiority” of high-ORAC and mega-doses of certain antioxidants (when we knew all along that this was not the right way to go).

Balancing Stress and Restoring Vigor: What You Should Know for Optimum Health

I’m just back from the International Sports and Exercise Nutrition Conference (ISENC) meeting in Newcastle England where we enjoyed three days of fantastic lectures about nutrition for sports performance and healthy lifestyles. It was a truly international faculty with participants from around the world and only a handful of Americans—so it was an interesting global perspective about some of the leading “nutrition solutions” to the public health issues discussed.

MonaVie RVL 3.0 Formula Coming Soon

We’re just about to introduce an updated version of the popular RVL Nutrition Shake Mix. Keep in mind that the shakes were already amazing in terms of overall “nutrient density” and balance between protein/carbohydrates/fat/fiber, but we took this opportunity to make them even better.

At the company, we refer to this revision as RVL “3.0” because it is the third time we’ve determined that the science of nutrition had progressed enough to warrant an update to the formula. Based on that new science, we adjusted the protein level and source, we slightly tweaked the carbohydrate blend, and we updated and improved the antioxidant profile. What this means is a formula that tastes better, stabilizes blood sugar more effectively, and controls appetite even more effectively than ever before—so you can lose the fat and keep the lean, to look and feel your best.

The new RVL Nutrition Shake Mix is based on a formula that I submitted as part of an International Olympic Committee (IOC) sports nutrition program that I'm a part of. Around the same time that I submitted this formula to the IOC program (May 2012), we were also in the process at MonaVie of updating the “2.0” RVL Shakes. So, when my IOC program colleagues came back with such positive feedback on the formula I submitted (top score based on overall balance from among approximately 100 submissions from around the world), I figured, that if it's good enough for the IOC, and good enough to recommend to the world’s top athletes, then it's probably a great place for MonaVie to be as well. So, we decided to use this same formula as the basis for our RVL 3.0 Nutrition Shake update.

Lose Weight for Brain Gain

Two new studies—both published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition (JACN, vol. 31, no. 2, 2012)—show how healthy nutrition habits can boost brainpower.

Being overweight is a well-known risk factor for cognitive decline and dementia, with people who are overweight experiencing a 74% higher risk for developing dementia later in life compared to people of normal weight (and the dementia risk is much higher if your overweight is also combined with diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure). Previous studies have shown that even modest weight loss is associated with improvements in insulin resistance (“pre-diabetes”) and blood vessel function (vascular reactivity), and those changes in glucose control and blood flow are associated with improved memory, faster problem solving (“executive function”) and a significantly lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
