A recent study from the University of California has discovered evidence that makes a link between obesity and dementia. A deviation of the fat mass and the obesity-associated (FTO) gene has been connected to a heavier body weight and larger waist circumference and the research found a correlation between the FTO variant and reduced brain volume.
If you think your genetics are a primary factor to obesity and weight gain then think again. With more than 300 million people in the world suffering from obesity, a large share of it can be attributed to poor diets and a paucity of physical activity.
Previous studies have concluded that obesity can lead to an array of illnesses and diseases, such as diabetes, heart failure, Alzheimer’s, hypertension, a stroke and many more. Although the medical community seems to concur with the obesity gene, it is still strongly recommended by physicians and health experts to stray away from potato chips and the sofa and head to the produce aisle of your local grocery store and the gym.
How does one begin to eat healthy? One of the growing trends in the world of health is consuming fruit and vegetable juice blends because it contains parts of the recommended fruit and vegetable servings. Also, many of the products, like MonaVie, have the Brazilian acai berry, an imperative component that has an abundance of antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, trace minerals and phytonutrients.
In 2005, business professionals noticed that more people wanted to become health conscious so they saw an opportunity and immediately grabbed a hold of it. This is what led to MonaVie, a South Jordan, Utah-based company that manufactures and distributes beverages made from blended fruit and vegetable juice concentrates, powders and purees.
MonaVie markets a wide range of drinks that have nutrition to improve your overall health, assist in the plight to get active, optimize immune systems and fight signals that you’re aging. Most importantly, as noted before, it maintains the acai berry, an element that has gained more media coverage in recent months.
Throughout the past eight years, MonaVie has successfully grown to become one of the leaders of the health and wellness industry. Much of this has been due in part to the hard work and dedication by its team of executives, which include Dallin A. Larsen, the founder and Chairman of the Board; Henry Marsh, the founder and Vice Chairman; and Randy Larsen, founder and Vice Chairman.
“In a short four and a half years, we have built a company that has generated what is quickly approaching $2 billion in cumulative sales. We are now perfectly positioned to expand around the world as well as throughout the United States,” said Larsen in a news release. “Considering that many other successful direct selling companies are thirty and forty years old and older, reminds me that at MonaVie, we are still in the infancy stage of our business. I believe our momentum will continue for the next several decades.”
Not only have these individuals worked hard to expand MonaVie it has also shown its gratitude to the nation of Brazil, an important player in the acai berry market. At the time it started MonaVie, it also helped launch the MORE Project, an initiative to help impoverished communities and families.
During the philanthropic endeavor’s existence, MonaVie has contributed millions of dollars in disaster relief, housing support, educational measures, daily meals, dental treatment, employment training and much more. The initiative has also begun expanding its work into Mexico, India and Thailand.
Each year, MonaVie has been featured by various media outlets, including NBC, CBS, Fortune magazine, Business Week and People.com, and recently the company’s nutrition and fitness expert, Mark Macdonald, appeared on the Dr. Oz Show to discuss methods to lead a healthier and more fit lifestyle.
In the end, its work in improving the lives of its customers and the lives of Brazil’s poor has garnered awards, including the Ernst & Young LLP Entrepreneur of the Year and CEO of the Year by Utah Business Magazine. It has also been given honors as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the Beehive State and in the United States.
